A quick guide to arbitration procedure

There is no set procedure for arbitration akin to that set out in the CPR for litigation. That said, many arbitrations follow a regular format allowing time for formal commencement of the arbitration, appointment of tribunal, preliminary hearing/procedural meetings, exchange of submissions, provision of written and oral evidence, substantive hearing, close of proceedings and provision of an award.

CAM-CCBC annual report shows record arbitration cases and new mediation rules

The Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC) has published its 2024 Facts & Figures report, revealing 126 new arbitration cases filed in 2024, the highest in its 45-year history. The report details the implementation of new Mediation Rules, a conflicts of interest questionnaire for experts and the drafting of Early Production of Evidence Rules. Cases averaged 26.5 months in duration, with 38.1% involving international parties. The centre maintained its commitment to gender diversity, with 69.83% of tribunals being mixed-gender.
