UNCTAD report reveals global FDI decline and digital investment concentration

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has published its World Investment Report 2025, showing global foreign direct investment (FDI) fell 11% following a $1.5trn total in 2024. The report highlights digital economy FDI grew 14%, but remains concentrated in 10 countries controlling 80% of new projects. UNCTAD proposes reforms across seven areas including data governance, digital infrastructure and global investment rules to address digital investment gaps in developing economies. Development-critical sectors saw significant declines, with renewable energy (-31%), transport (-32%), and water infrastructure (-30%) particularly affected.

Peru: new CCL Arbitration Rules 2025—Work still in progress

Arbitration analysis: The 2025 Arbitration Rules of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) introduce several reforms aimed at aligning with international arbitration standards, including the scrutiny of awards, revised rules for arbitrator appointments in multi-party cases and mandatory procedural calendars with fixed dates. While these changes represent a move toward greater efficiency and quality control, the work is still in progress. Although these reforms are well-intentioned, their effectiveness will depend on how they are implemented in practice. Without further clarification through practical guidelines or supplementary rules, there is a risk that some provisions (particularly the scrutiny mechanism) will remain underutilised or inconsistently applied.
